As the pictures on the wall will prove, the food stand was a great favorite of the late King Hussein.  Leaving Amman we’ll stop first at Mt. Nebo, This amazing panorama includes the Jordan River Valley, the Dead Sea, Jericho and the spires and domes of the Mt. of Olives and Bethlehem on the Judean hills just across the wide valley. Later we visit Madaba en route to Petra where we see the Church of St George, the Madaba Archaeological Park, Apostles Church, and Madaba Museum. Our next port of call is Um ar-Rasas, one of Jordan’s World Heritage sites and once an important stop on the busy caravan routes. The impressive mosaic floor of the St. Stephen Church features medallions commemorating all the early Christian pilgrimage sites of the region, and the extensive ruins also include one of the area’s earliest Stylite towers, where a Byzantine hermit lived atop the tower and preached to the pilgrimage visitors. Our final stop of the day is Petra. Consider doing a Petra by Night excursion, it takes place Mondays; Wednesdays &Thursdays (payable locally) for a tantalizing candlelight stroll through Petra’s Siq ... a romantic preview of things to come. Dinner and overnight in Petra.

Day 3: The Nabatean City of Petra

We will arrange your entrance fees and with your private guide, start the tour of Petra covering the main attraction of the site at the lower part. You and the guide will start from the main gate all the way through the Siq to visit the Treasury, Street of Facades, the Theatre, all the way down to the Nymphaeum and Qaser El- Bent.  Have lunch inside Petra at Al Basin Restaurant, then continue with the guide, climb to the Monastery.  In the evening, why not try your hand at Petra Kitchen (optional) to join fellow travelers for a cuisine course at the Petra Kitchen, where you’ll help prepare a memorable Jordanian feast.  Dinner and overnight in Petra.

At lunchtime, we stop in Wadi Musa souk to pick up delicious shawarma sandwiches or fruit and veggie snacks from the local produce souk before making the scenic drive to Wadi Rum. Late afternoon, enjoy a 2 hour 4x4 safari of this moonscape desert terrain, arriving at our remote campsite deep in the heart of the Wadi Rum. We enjoy a magical evening under the brilliant stars of the desert night sky, including a scrumptious traditional Jordanian dinner.  Dinner and overnight in Wadi Rum.

Day 5 : Wadi Rum - Kerak Castle - Wadi Mujib Siq Trail - Dead Sea

After breakfast at the campsite, we head north along the Desert Highway. Taking a drive through the market town of Karak under the towering shadows of the Karak Crusader Castle built over the remains of earlier citadels some which date back to Nabataean times. The castle in itself is more imposing than beautiful, although it is an impressive example of the Crusaders' architectural military genius. The commanding view over the region is spectacular. We then continue to Wadi Mujib for some fun and adventure on the Siq Trail.  This lowest nature reserve on the planet is surrounded by massive multi-layered rock walls.  During your 2 hour hike, clamber up and over rocks against the river's current while holding on to the embedded rope for support. This water trail winds its way through a spectacular gorge ending at a large, rushing waterfall.  The trail is self-guided but there are people stationed along the way to help you through the more tricky areas if you need.  After your water adventure, continue to the world's largest natural spa and one of the most unique spots on earth - the Dead Sea to experience the strange sensation of floating effortlessly in the mystical waters, lounge around the pool, and take in the beautiful scenery.  Dinner and overnight at the Dead Sea.
Please note that the Wadi Mujib Siq Trail is only open from April 1st to October 31st.  You must be 18 years or older and know how to swim. Other times of the year, the Ibex Trail will be used (dry trail).
